Using Words to Add to Your Memories
How many times have you looked at a photograph of yourself and wondered “What was I thinking when that picture was taken?” Sometimes the look on our face reveals our true state of mind at the time, but more often than not, we put on our best face when someone points a camera in our direction.Words can really capture your thoughts and feelings about a specific memory, that’s why using text is so important. Supplementing your albums with brief descriptions is a great way to help your friends and family understand why certain memories are so important to you.
Take that photo that was snapped at graduation. Maybe you were jubilant that you were finally done with school. Or a little sad to be leaving your friends behind. Adding a quick caption to a photograph can let your loved ones in onto what you were feeling at the time: “This is right before I walked the stage. I was so nervous!” When you share your memories in this way, people are excited and honored to be a part of the experience, whether or not they were actually there.
While photos are our main source for remembering events as they happened, the written word can supply so much more. In addition to captioning photographs, you may also want to create a separate album page to capture your thoughts and memories using just text.
Take for example your family reunion. Depending on how big your family is perhaps hundreds of pictures were taken. A text version of the event gives you, your family and future family members a more touching account of what took place. Perhaps a cousin told you an interesting story about a long-lost relative that you’d like to capture. Jotting this conversation down along with any other memories, accounts or descriptions adds to the experience.
Written memory capture also gives us a window in to those family members who can’t speak for themselves, our pets. While you’re able to create albums with photos, audio and video for Fido, describing what endears you to him immortalizes in a way other media just can’t. Describe how you rescued him, his quirks, habits and favorite places.
When using MemoriesGrow, think of photos, video and audio as the foundation of your albums. Your thoughts, feelings and accounts of actual events are what makes the memories important for you and others to share.
